We don’t do anything weird with your data.
Plain-language explanation of what we collect, how long we keep it, and what we don’t do — especially when it comes to your kids.
We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not require your children’s full names. We do not share it with third parties. That’s the short version.
What we collect
- Your email address — collected by Stripe when you pay. We never see your card details; Stripe handles those directly.
- Hunt inputs — the destination, kids’ first names or nicknames, interests, difficulty, and style you enter when creating a hunt.
- Generated hunt content — the AI-written story, challenges, and fun facts for your specific outing.
- Payment identifiers — Stripe session and receipt IDs, stored for support and tax purposes.
- Anonymous analytics events — page views, funnel steps (e.g. “hunt opened”). No child names or PII in any event payload.
How long we keep it
- Paid hunts: hunt content and inputs are deleted after your 30-day link expires, plus a short grace period.
- Unpaid / abandoned reservations: deleted after approximately 7 days. These are just tiny database rows with no AI content attached.
- Payment records: retained for as long as legally required for tax and support (Stripe holds payment data per their own terms).
Your kids’ data
We ask for first names or nicknames only — never full names, birth dates, or addresses. We encourage parents to use a nickname (your kid will love being “Detective Bea” more than “Beatrice Eleanor Johnson” anyway).
Hunt content is never indexed by search engines and is never used to train AI models. We don’t collect photos, location, or any device identifiers from children.
Security
- All data is transmitted over HTTPS.
- API keys and secrets are server-only — never exposed to the browser.
- Hunt URLs use unguessable random slugs (12 characters, cryptographically random).
- We use Neon Postgres and Vercel, both of which have their own security practices.
Requesting deletion
If you want your data deleted before the automatic expiry, email us at hello@familyscavengerhunt.com and we’ll take care of it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we make any material changes, we’ll update this page and note the date below. We won’t bury changes in a changelog no one reads.
